Welcome to the DGT-OmegaT project.
This project is made by the Directorate General for Translation, that is the division of the European Commission where translators (not interpreters) work. Not all translators in DGT are using OmegaT, but those who do use it for production since 2012.
DGT-OmegaT is a fork actually based on OmegaT 3.6.0 (actual stable/documented version), with a few backports from later versions. The user manual has not been changed. This web site documents all added features (but assuming that the reader already has good knowledge of original OmegaT) and allows you to comment on all of them, feedback is welcome.
The aim of this project is not to build a new community that competes with the team maintaining the original OmegaT. We publish our code to allow anyone to look at the features we built for our own needs, and leave it up to OmegaT community to decide whether some of them can be reused.
We are aware that some features will not be reusable, either because they are too DGT-specific or because they have been built to satisfy our users' preferences. We do not intend to discuss these here, nor do we encourage users to switch to our version of OmegaT.
DGT-OmegaT is published as-is, without express or implied warranties, and comes without support. The contact page and the comments facility in the website are there to enable a discussion about the actual features, not to make feature requests. If you see a bug, please report it using the issues tracker but we do not guarantee that eventual problems will be solved.
