In OmegaT, when a TMX entry does not contain the target language, until recently all languages except the source were inserted in dedicated entry. OmegaT 5.0 just added the possibility to make it optional and apply a penalty to these foreign entries.
If you are using massive multilingual TMX files, such as the ones you can download from Euramis (which can contain up to 24 languages per entry) such an approach would probably become a nightmare. So, we initially added the same options as in OmegaT 5.0, but also the possibility to select some favorite languages, each one with dedicated penalty:
The rule is the following:

Note that contrarily to what is actually implemented in OmegaT, we do not consider the source text as a translation: you will not receive a match with target identical to translation if you are in the case #5. That said, the list of favorite languages is totally open: if it contains the source language, then it will appear in cases #1 to #3. And considering that this option is (for the moment) global to all projects, this is something which really can occur.
When you click on the "Add" button, you can choose a language, a penalty, and whenever you want to see results in this language inserted in the editor:
Generally it is a good idea to exclude from insertion when the alphabet of the foreign language is different from your target language. But this is an individual choice. |
